Study choices
Did you know?
- You don't have to go away to university to study for a degree - many higher education courses are delivered at local colleges as well. What's on offer ranges from short course to Foundation degrees, Honours degrees and Post Graduate study.
- For work-related courses, search Foundation Degrees in the South East by location, subject or key-word. Most Foundation degrees can be studied part-time to fit round work.
- If you're wondering what we mean by higher education (HE) it is any programme where the level of teaching is at Level 4 or above on the national qualifications framework. Have a look at the
Qualifications and Levels information sheet for more explanation. To give you a point of reference, GCSEs are level 2. - If you're a mature learner, you can start degree level study with or without A levels (level 3). Your experience may be enough and you might be able to claim some accreditation for it.
- If you're returning to education and you don't have qualifications, a Skills Account could help you take control of your learning and working life. Try the diagnostic questionnaires to help you make decisions.
- Professional and Career Development Loans could help you pay for learning that enhances your career prospects.
- Explore The Good University Guide Online to find out who's good at what.

Postgraduate study
Look at your local university and college websites for short courses and continuing professional development - look in the business facing sections for work-related learning. For general advice, see the information and advice for postgraduates at Prospects and Postgraduate study: getting started.
