About higher education

  • You can study higher education part-time at your local college as well as at university and choose a short course or full qualification. For mature learners, entry requirements are different, so you don't have to have A levels. Your work experience may be all you need.
  • For work-related degrees, search Foundation Degrees in the South East by location, subject or key-word. Most can be studied part-time to fit round work.
  • For a definition of higher education (HE) see the PDF Qualifications and Levels info sheet.
  • There are jobs that offer opportunities to develop higher level skills, see alternatives to uni in the Working Opportunities section.
  • To browse courses, see the local providers of higher education below.  If you prefer distance learning, look at The Open University and the Brighton School of Business & Management for study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well professional development courses.
  • If you've already got a degree, see Prospects and Postgraduate study: getting started.

If you have a disability, have a look at our information sheets on disability support in further education PDF and disability support in higher education PDF together with contact details of specialist PDF organisations offering information on disabilities.
